Sometimes after spending years in a controlling environment or cult such as Scientology or Jehovah’s Witnesses, we can be influenced to devalue other humans, especially those (non-believers) who are not a part of the organization. Some groups say that people in the outside world are hated by God and about to be destroyed. Some require members to disconnect from or shun family or friends who leave the group. In order to cut off and reject precious family members, one’s innate familial love has to have been disabled or repressed.
Once out of the group, we may need to relearn what natural loving behavior looks like and how to express it.
